Voluma uses the same ingredients as a Juvéderm injection, with some small differences. Like Juvéderm, it is made from a smooth, colorless hyaluronic acid (HA) gel. HA is a naturally occurring sugar found in the body that works to hydrate the skin and provide nutrients to it. HA also helps the skin be soft, and provide cushioning.
Voluma is made using the Vycross technology, which gives the HA gel some appealing characteristics for cosmetic use. Vycross combines two different kinds of HA to make the filler smoother, more natural looking, and easier to inject (decreasing pain). Because if this technology, patients are less able to perceive the filler in the skin.
What kind of results can I expect?
As we age, our cheeks begin to flatten out and skin may begin sag, because we start to lose the subcutaneous fat that helps provide youthful structure to our face. Voluma adds back the missing volume to give the face a younger appearance.
In a clinical study, results from a Voluma injection lasted up to 2 years. Six months after treatment, study subjects rated themselves as looking an average of five years younger.
What is a treatment like?
A Voluma injection is very simple and generally painless. Voluma is made with a small amount of local anesthetic, which helps decrease any discomfort you may feel.
Are there any side effects?
Some people experience some redness, tenderness or swelling for a few days after an injection.
